Oki,
Welcome back to the blog!
Exciting things happening here at Indig Busy-ness as we continue our mission of highlighting and discussing the Truth and Reconcilation Commission recommendation #92 that relates directly to Business & Reconciliation; we are also focusing upon highlighting great artists in the scene you should be following if you have an interest in Indigenous Art or Artivism.
This highlight is on STANK DADDY and the Good Stank Mart, held by both Stank Daddy and Good Luck Studios in so-called Vancouver, British Columbia. The next market is happening Saturday Oct 29, 2022 at Red Gate Arts Society on Main Street in so-called Vancouver. The market will be open from 11 - 6 PM that day, and there will be vendors and artists of all disciplines in attendance.

We were lucky enough to attend and be a vendor at a Good Stank Mart back in May 2022 when we were living on the Unceded Territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Coast Salish Nations. Here's a video of some of the highlights from that Market. It was one of the best Markets we have ever vended at, making a ton of sales as the crowd was actually there to buy art.
Stank Daddy has been working on these markets with Good Luck Studios for over a year, and shows how collaboration and partnership within the scene can help to boost profiles of our working artists.
Stank Daddy is also a beader under napi_beading and zine artist/comic artist that tells the truth as it is. His work is different than traditional Indigenous Artists, and breaks barriers in the scene by flat out telling it like it is in today's society. Quirky catch lines and familiar form of comics makes Stank Daddy's work stand out and he has done many collaborations in his time in so-called Vancouver. Stank Daddy is also a member of the Blood Tribe in Southern Alberta, where he calls home.
One of the opening acts, Polo Brian, was even wearing a Stank Daddy tee at the sold-out show of the Snotty Nose Rez Kids, at the commodore Ballroom in May 2022. This Kainai kid sure is becoming world famous (lol), as he likes to say. Not only is he creating opportunities for others, but he's also out there actively engaged in the scene - real Niitsitapi vibes. We are grateful to know Stank Daddy, and grateful for the work they do. Be sure to catch this market if you are in the area.
